Picture Day '23: Event Recap

A social mixer for food creators, in an evening of connection, creativity, and community-building

Event photos by our volunteer photographers Kendra Harris and Jimel Atkins, and portraits by our volunteer photographer Kourey Angelo

For our annual food creator social mixer, foodies from across Africa and the diaspora came together for an unforgettable evening of celebrating culinary heritage, networking, and sharing their passion for food.

Guests were greeted with delicious bites by our guest chef, Tiana Gee, and nostalgic baked goods from Jikoni Recipe Archive's founder Kiano Moju. 'Better for you' snacks were provided by Thrive Market.

As the sun began to set, DJ Mini Skrrt spun throwback tunes, bringing the vibes as guests had their portraits taken by celebrity portrait photographer Koury Angelo. Koury has shot portraits of Kerrie Washington, Michael B. Jordan, The Weeknd, Lebron James, and Lupita Nyong'o, to name a few!

Hosted in a space provided by Jikoni Studios, the event created a space for food creators from all walks of the industry — from bloggers and social media influencers to chefs and cookbook authors — to mingle, share ideas, and build relationships.
